7/12 and 13 Bourne Tournament
The U-12 Little League All Stars won their first game of the tourney, thrashing Wellfleet, 11-1, behind Eli Berlow and Colin Cameron. There were home runs by Berlow and Tony Canha, and Mike Mussell was 3-for-4.
The Islander's second game, a 13-2 domination of Westwood, was as impressive as the first. Cameron pitched four innings, had two homers, and drove in five runs.
Game three was a barnburner with Harwich. The Vineyard prevailed, 4-3. Ian Bardwell started on the mound and Eli Berlow closed. Trailing 2-1 in the sixth, Tony Canha homered and Colin Cameron scored the winning run.
Having reached the playoffs, the Islanders were faced by Harwich again in the semi-finals, this time winning, 3-1. Eli Berlow pitched.
In the final, versus a strong Rochester squad, Pitcher Oscar Hansen held the Bulldogs to two runs, the same as the Vineyarders and the game went to extra innings.
In the top of the eighth Rochester touched reliever Berlow for two runs. In their half of the eighth the Vineyard loaded the bases and pushed a run across the plate. But that was it! Rochester 4, Vineyard 3.
This final game ended at 10:15, too late to catch a ferry home. But Jeff Canha arrived with his 36-foot sportfisherman, "Done Deal," and the Islanders came home in style.
The four-win, one-loss performance was the best Martha's Vineyard has ever accomplished in this annual tournament.
After a week off, the Martha's Vineyard All Stars will enter another 12-team tourney at Sandwich, July 26-29.

The Under-10 Vineyard all-star baseball team won two and lost two at the 12 team Sandwich tournament last weekend
Their 5-4 defeat of Scituate was especially sweet, avenging last year's 10-0 loss. Curtis Farrell and Silas Berlin shared the Martha's Vineyard mound. Emerson Mahoney was 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs. Catcher Jack Slayton earned his coach's praise for a strong game.
The Vineyard's second win was over Lakeville, 6-4. Farrell and Berlin again did the hurling. Tucker McNeeley had a defensive gem, snagging a line drive with bases loaded in the fifth. Emerson Mahoney, who was on a batting tear all weekend, was 3-for-3 again and again drove in three runs. Pete Engley was 2-for-3 and had two rbi.
Ryan Uva made a Willie Mays-0like catch in the outfield.
The U-10s are at Fairhaven this weekend for another 12-team tourney.
